Rancho Bernardo is a very interesting area of San Diego. It was actually granted to an Englishman before the Mexican-American war. The area is surrounding the I-15 to the North of Penasquitos and South of Escondido. It has a lot of older homes that were built in the '60s as well as newer neighborhoods. Some of the newer homes were build after the Witch Creek wildfire of 2007 that destroyed original homes. RB, as resident refer to the area, is full of some big employers like Sony, Broadcom and Hewlett-Pachard, it also is home to the oldest operating winery in Southern California, the Bernardo Winery that was established in 1889 and family owned and operated since 1927. There are many golf courses and other places to play and entertain in Rancho Bernardo, including the Lake Hodges reservoir at the north edge of town. RB residents are served by the award winning Poway Unified School District.
